The entrance to (SIDAREC) Slums Information Development & Resource Centre in the Mukuru Kwa Mjenga slum. The area has a population of approximately 420,000. SIDAREC work with 120 children between the ages of 2 and 5 years on early childhood development. 2008 STARS Impact Award winner for Education: Nairobi-based Slums Information Development & Resource Centres (SIDAREC), selected for its innovative approach to improving the welfare of children and youth in slum communities through its provision of early childhood education, recreation centres and health services, with a goal to enable them to raise their standards of living and improve their community.
