Folkestone Trawlers

Folkestone was founded on its fishing industry which dates back to pre-Roman times. During its heyday there were 60 boats operating out of the busy harbour and employing over 300 people in the town. However today, there are only 7 working boats left, employing just over 20 people. The boats are owned and managed by Folkestone families who have a strong fishing heritage. International award-winning documentary photographer, Andrew Aitchison, has been working with Folkestone Trawlers over the summer to capture portraits of the fishermen and show an insight into the highs and lows of Folkestone’s fishing industry in 2016.
